Astronomy, cosmology and gravity

Research in cosmology and astronomy seeks to understand the universe as a whole and the astronomical object in it such as black holes, stars and planets. A cornerstone for obtaining this understanding is gravity which holds some of the most profound ridles in fundamental physics.

Cosmology

Cosmology concerns our understanding of the universe; the origin of the universe, the evolution of the universe, the matter contents and the forces which govern the universe.

Gravity is a force that everyone knows from their everyday life – and yet it holds some of the most profound riddles in physics, for instance how it fits with quantum physics. It also shapes the properties of some of the most extreme objects in our universe, like black holes and neutron stars, that are in the focus of astrophysics.
