The increased frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, such as storms, floods, heat waves and cold spells, pose a significant threat to not only the health and well-being of the billions of people on our planet, but also the healthcare systems.
These concomitant challenges highlight the urgency of a holistic approach to adapt our healthcare systems, with a specific focus on understanding and addressing the impacts of extreme weather events.
To this end, our research team will integrate insights from medical sciences, data science and climate science to develop, test and implement a new preparedness system AcuteX for hospital resource allocation and extreme weather event planning.
The pilot implementation of AcuteX is planned in Odense and Esbjerg and will then be followed up by further implementation efforts in Sweden, Germany and Mexico.
Our ambition is that AcuteX can be functional worldwide to strengthen preparedness and resilience of healthcare systems.
