Baltic TRAM-project to upscale research in the Baltic Sea Region

Through the new project Baltic TRAM, 16 project partners from the Baltic Sea Region and five associated organisations have launched an effort to make a change within the research and innovation area. The project activities will be led by the German partner DESY, Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron, and the Mads Clausen Institute participates as a representative for Denmark.

Boost innovation and entrepreneurship
The overall objective of the project is to boost innovation, secure the implementation of the Smart Specialization Strategy (S3) and encourage entrepreneurship by supporting small and medium-sized enterprises, SMEs – thus contributing to the regional effort of making the Baltic Sea Region innovative, sustainable and competitive. S3 for the Baltic Sea Region is an integrated framework for identifying common needs and matching them with available resources through the coordination of appropriate policies to tackle common challenges. In this project, MCI has assumed the task of deciphering possibilities and potentials in the region of Southern Denmark.

Smart Cooperation
Baltic TRAM will focus on investments in research infrastructures and on a strengthened cooperation between research institutions and business. It will enhance dialogue between industrial users and researchers in order to streamline R&D-intensive investments in innovation and link them to concrete industrial needs. Measures for that include preparation of status and roadmaps, workshops, seminars and one-to-one matching events. The ambition of the project is to develop S3 into a “Smart Cooperation” strategy, to be developed on the basis of the national research strategies and brought into the spotlight of the regional research and innovation agendas.
The project runs from March 2016 to March 2019.
