More responsible innovation in industry
MCI takes part in developing a Best Practice model to make industrial companies act more responsibly.
The Mads Clausen Institute has recently entered into a partnership with a series of European universities and organizations within innovation. Together, they will work towards increasing the corporate responsibility of private companies when conducting research, development and innovation.
EU project support
The collaboration, which started in the beginning of February in Brussels, is funded in the European Seventh Framework Programme (FP7), which are earmarked for creating and maintaining jobs as well as increasing the competitiveness of the member countries. The project, named Responsible-Industry, has been awarded just over 11 Mio. DKK. The partners will work out an Exemplar Implementation Plan of Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) to demonstrate how industry can work productively together with societal actors. To do so, Responsible-Industry will guide interactive discussions between leading industry partners, established RRI experts, relevant policy advisors and civil society organisations to run the research and innovation process with the principles of RRI in mind.
To achieve maximum impact where it is most needed, the implementation plan will focus on the grand challenge of health, demographic change and wellbeing. More specifically, the project will emphasize the role that research and innovation in information and communications technology can play in addressing this challenge.
MCI to identify important documentation
Initially, the project will develop a model of responsible research and innovation in industry. Dozens of companies and stakeholders will subsequently be involved. MCI will provide the necessary academic rigour to record, analyse and synthesise the observations from stakeholders and companies into appropriate models of RRI in industry that can then be generalised to other sectors. Professor Alexander Brem of MCI and a PhD student will work on the project.
After the end of the project in 2017, the Responsible-Industry model will be free of use for all European companies interested in this project.
