For EU/EEA and Swiss citizens all registrations happen after arrival. You will need to apply for:
- An EU residence document if you plan on staying for more than 3 months.
Citizens of Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden, however, are free to enter, reside, study and work in Denmark without. - Civil registration number (CPR number) if you plan on staying for more than 3 months.
SDU will assist you with direct information on where and when to show, and what documents to prepare.
If you choose to arrive early and need to complete the process prior to study start – e.g. for work reasons – you will find information on how to register yourself on lifeindenmark.dk.
As a rule, all non-EU/EEA citizens will need a student residence permit to study in Denmark.

Please be aware that students will need a new residence permit when advancing in their studies, e.g. from a bachelor's to a master's degree programme.
Application process
SDU will initiate the application process and assist you with specific information once you have been admitted to SDU.
However, as the application process requires some preparation on your part, you may wish to read up on the process and general conditions.
Information can be found on the website of the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration (SIRI) who will process the application.
Please be aware that:
- you will be required to pay a fee to SIRI that is additional to any application and/or admission fee required by SDU. You will also be required to have your biometric features recorded, and if done abroad this may involve a separate fee.
- full degree students must pay their first tuition fee rate before SDU can initiate the application.
