Application process in Odense
You should apply for housing as soon as you have submitted your application to SDU, even if you are not sure of being offered a place. If you are not offered a place, your application for Student Housing will be cancelled automatically.
Bachelor and master’s students can apply for accommodation 3 days after they have submitted the application for their study program.
Exchange and guest students can apply as soon as they have submitted the application for their study program.
To be guaranteed Student Housing you must apply before the deadline:
- September admission: 1 May
- February admission: 1 November
You apply for Student Housing by filling out an online application form at sduhousing.sdu.dk.
When you make an application, it is possible, but not required, to add specific requests for your accommodation. For instance, you can request to share accommodation with a fellow student or partner. But please note that we cannot guarantee that we can grant your request. In the FAQ further down this page, you can read more about what sort of requests you can add to your application and how.
You will not receive an offer of Student Housing until you have received your official acceptance letter from SDU.
We begin sending out offers from 1 June for the autumn semester and from 1 November for the spring semester. Please note that not everyone will receive an offer on June 1st, as it may take some weeks to send out offers to all students. The offer will be sent by email from Odense Accommodation Office.
In the email with the offer of Student Housing, you will find a link, which you use to accept or decline the offer.
You have 6 days to accept the offer of housing. If you do not accept the offer before the deadline, or if you decline the offer, the offer will be cancelled and you cannot expect to receive another offer.
Within a few days of accepting the housing offer, you will receive an email with a Welcome Letter. In this letter, you can find information about:
- Your accommodation
- Payment
- Contract
- Arrival
- Termination notice
- Moving out inspection
It is important that you read this letter carefully. If you miss a deadline for signing the contract or paying the deposit, you risk losing your Student Housing and we will not necessarily be able to offer you anything else.
You pay rent from the day your accommodation is available. It may be as
early as 1 August/1 January, but can also be as late as 1 September/1
February. You can arrive later if you prefer, but you still have to pay rent from the day your accommodation is available
You will usually be asked to pay the first month’s rent and deposit one
month before you arrive. This should be paid by international bank transfer.
You can find more information on when and how to pay the rent and deposit in
the Welcome Letter that is sent to you when you have accepted the offer of
accommodation.
FAQ
Yes, you are welcome to put in a request if you know which of our housing
options you would prefer. However, we cannot guarantee you’ll be offered
your requested accommodation.
You can state your request in the ‘General comments’ section when you fill
out your application. Please add a 1st and 2nd priority.
Pets:
Pets are not allowed in any of the Student Housing. This also applies for pets in cages or terrarium.
Children:
The Accommodation Office only offers single or double rooms, so you will not be able to stay in the Student Housing with a child. If you need family housing, you can apply for generel Student Housing in Odense at Studiebolig Odense. Please note that the housing offered on this site will be unfurnished.
Spouse/partner:
The Accommodation Office mostly offers single rooms, where only one person is allowed to stay. However, there are a limited number of housing options where you can live two people. The options are a studio apartment at Østerbro 1 or a double room at Campus House. See housing options above.
We cannot guarantee that we can offer you Student Housing for two people, as there is a limited number of this housing option. Alternatively, we can offer you a single room.
Please see how to apply below:
If you want to live with your spouse/partner who will not be a student at SDU: When you send your housing application, you must state the name and email of your spouse/partner in the "Generel comments" section. Please also state that you will be bringing your spouse/partner, and that you prefer Student Housing for two people.
If you want to live with your spouse/partner who will also be a student at SDU: When you send your housing application, both of you must state each others name under the "Generel comments" section. If only one of you does this, we will not be able to offer you housing together. Please also state that you are a couple, and that you prefer Student Housing for two people
Yes, you can request to live at the same address as a fellow student, but in seperate rooms. However, we cannot guarantee that we can offer you a room at the same address.
You can state your request in the "Generel comments" section when you fill out your application. Please note that you must both request to live at the same address. Otherwise, we cannot send you offers for the same address.
The guarantee for accommodation applies once only. If you decide to extend
your stay, you will either need to keep your accommodation or give it up and
find something new on your own.
If you leave Denmark for a period (e.g. sabbatical leave, internship or
exchange stay), we cannot guarantee new accommodation for you when you
return to Denmark.
We will, of course, try to help you as best we can.
If you are a returning student, please do not apply via the online application portal. Instead, you should write an email to bolig@sdu.dk. Please state why you need accommodation, when you need it and how much you can pay each month, including utilities.
If we find accommodation for you, please note that you cannot expect to get a room before 15 February for the spring semester. Many students have exams until the end of January and will not vacate the rooms before then. Due to this overlap, we will probably not be able to offer you accommodation before 1 February.
All rooms are furnished with a bed, a desk, shelves, a chair and a lamp.
In some cases, linen and kitchen items will be provided free of charge by
the landlord. If this is the case for your accommodation, it will say so in
the Welcome Letter sent to you after you have accepted the offer of
accommodation.
If linen and kitchen items are not provided by the landlord, the following applies:
- Exchange students: Linen and kitchen items are not provided by SDU, and you must bring or buy these yourself.
- Full-degree students: SDU offers a linen bag and a kitchen box to all full-degree students. You do not have to apply or ask for this separately – the linen bag and kitchen box can be found in your accommodation when you arrive. The linen bag includes a bed pad, duvet, pillow, 2 sets of bedclothes, 2 towels and 2 bath towels, 2 wash cloths and a package of dish towels. The kitchen box includes plates, cups, glasses, cutlery, kitchen utensils, pots and pans.
You will receive information on how to get your key in the Welcome Letter.
The deadline for giving notice is carefully described in your tenancy agreement.
Notice must always be given in writing to the Accommodation Office using a special form. The termination notice of tenancy agreement will be in your welcome folder or sent as a link in the Welcome Letter.
All landlords require that you move out of the accommodation 14 days before your tenancy agreement expires for them to prepare the accommodation for the next tenant. If you have any doubts about how to give notice, please contact the Accommodation Office upon arrival, as a late termination notice may result in additional costs for you.
In connection with giving notice, you are required to make an agreement for a moving out inspection. You can hand in your keys to the landlord's caretaker at the inspection.
The landlord’s caretaker will inspect the accommodation in your presence and make a note of what needs to be done. If needed, the accommodation will be painted, and floors will be sanded and lacquered.
The expense will be deducted from your deposit.
The inspection notes, both upon moving in and moving out, should be available to you in English. If this is not the case, please contact the Accommodation Office before signing anything.
