How the young get more than the elderly out of society – but not out of the state
In The Conversation, DaWS Professor Pieter Vanhuysse presents the results of a study on transfers between age groups, conducted together with researchers Robert Gal and Lili Vargha. The researchers looked at public and private monetary, as well as time transfers between age groups. Their findings show that while children receive more net transfers from society as a whole, the elderly receive more through the state. This indicates that much of the financial and time burden of children falls on their parents.
