From 1997-2000 1,512 twins born from 1931-1982 were recruited to GEMINAKAR. The study was initiated in order to study the importance of genes and environment for development of insulin resistance, abdominal obesity and cardiovascular risk factors. In total, 756 complete pairs participated in the clinical examinations. The participants also completed a comprehensive questionnaire and a food frequency questionnaire. During 2010-2012 a follow-up was conducted, in which a total 1,119 twins participated. Biological samples from both baseline and follow-up is stored.
