SDU Odense
Cultural richness
Kristopher, 22, Denmark, psychology
Moving to Odense has been an exciting process for me, as it is a much larger city than where I come from. I have been welcomed warmly, and Odense has offered much more than I dared to hope for. Culturally, there is a lot happening in the city.
Recommendations
Pappas Papbar is a great board game café that is very cozy.
I would also like to highlight the street Vestergade as a whole. The city center has been criticised by some, but I think it works really well.
The Student House is a great place – both for meetings, for writing assignments and for a cup of coffee.
Building connections
The social aspect of student life means a lot to me, and at SDU there are plenty of opportunities to make new friends, if you come from afar. I would definitely recommend others to get involved in the associations or various committees related to their studies. There are so many people here, who are passionate about social activities and volunteering, and I have used the social activities to build my network.
This has meant that I have quickly put down roots in the city, and I feel at home. I have lived in student accommodation since I moved here, and my fellow housemates have guided me well through the start of my studies. The tutors are also incredibly helpful, and it’s important to emphasize that you can always ask others for advice.
Starting your studies can involve many things, and both the social and academic aspects can feel difficult and overwhelming, but you can be sure to find someone with the same interests as you. At SDU, it can initially feel a bit like Hogwarts, as you experience many new staircases and doors – but suddenly, new doors may open in the form of friendships.
