The Innovation Award 2024 goes to Professor Henrik Karring and Specialist Consultant Simon Svane from the Faculty of Engineering.
Henrik and Simon receive the award for their development of an environmentally friendly and low-cost technology to reduce ammonia and methane and odour emissions from slurry. The STAF technology (Synergistic Tannin and Fluoride Technology) is patented and ready to be scaled up and implemented.
The technology is based on tannins, a group of natural substances from
plants that, in combination with a low concentration of fluoride,
effectively suppress the formation of ammonia, methane and odour from
slurry.
The expected launch of a spin-off company within the next year emphasises
the two researchers’ dedication to bringing this innovative solution to the
market.
The development of the technology is supported by the Danish Agricultural Agency, the Danish Environmental Protection Agency and Innovation Fund Denmark. In the continuing development and testing of the technology, SDU is working with partners from SEGES Innovation and Aarhus University.
