Collaborations and Network

We work with numerous strong partners from Denmark and abroad, and we are proud to work with Adjunct Professor Tunde Peto, Queen’s University Belfast, UK, and Adjunct Professor Ryo Kawasaki, Osaka, Japan. We are part of several research networks in Denmark, the Nordic Countries, Europe and Worldwide, and we take pride to be in the front line of ophthalmic research in multiple areas.

Examples of current research networks in which we are actively involved

  • Retinal and cognitive dysfunction in type 2 diabetes: unraveling the common pathways and identification of patients at risk of dementia: RECOGNISED (EU funded European multicenter study).
  • Identification of patient-reported barriers to treatment for neovascular AMD: I-OPTA.
  • Danish Excellence Centre in Ophthalmic Epidemiology: DECODE-EYE.
  • Ocular and systemic complications in diabetic retinopathy study: OASIS.
  • Virtual ocular learning platform: VIOLA.
  • Development, implementation and patenting of an automated diabetic retinopathy segmentation-based screening algorithm: IMPRESS.
  • Deep-learning in the detection of clinically significant diabetic macular edema and as a predictor of treatment outcome (collaborative study with Vestfold Hospital Trust, Tønsberg, Norway)
  • Prediction of proliferative diabetic retinopathy: construction of a risk-based index through segmentation: PRECISE.
