Diabetic Retinopathy screening in Denmark: Validation, adherence, and development of disease in relation to systemic treatment

We are committed to evaluate and improve the diabetic retinopathy (DR) screening in Denmark. By a combination of clinical and register-based sub-studies assessing the Danish screening program for DR we examine the intergrader variability amongst graders in the program, and thus validate the contents of the Danish Registry of Diabetic Retinopathy (DiaBase). We also describe attendance patterns of patients in the screening program, and clarify potential risks connected with delayed attendance.
Furthermore, we explore different systemic interventions (bariatric surgery and insulin pumps) and their potential relation to DR worsening in patients with diabetes.
This PhD project was embedded in the national research collaborations Ocular And Systemic complications In diabetic retinopathy Study (OASIS) and the Danish Excellence Centre in Ophthalmic Epidemiology (DECODE-EYE).
