Abstract
Although across different boarders and set in another century than those of the ‘Retracing connections’ project, I shall in this presentation focus on concepts as Byzantine identities and cultural exchange. In particular, I deal with the unionist scribe, philologist, priest, theologist, bishop, cantor, and composer Ioannes Plousiadienos (c. 1429-1500, a close connection of cardinal Bessarion). With point of departure in his autograph manuscript Dionysiou 570, I shall try to trace how ‘Byzantineness’ and Cretan-Venetian elite culture mixed up in a milieu of crucial importance for European renaissance culture, politics, and church history around the Fall of Constantinople.
