Excellence Center for Improved Diagnostics and Use of Corticosteroids in Clinical Practice (EXCENTRICC), which is headed by Professor Jan Frystyk, Department of Endocrinology, Odense University Hospital, receives the Region of Southern Denmark award "Center for Clinical Excellence" and DKK 7.5 million.
EXCENTRICC involves various departments and researchers in the Region of Southern Denmark, and aims to answer clinically key questions about the influence of adrenal cortex hormones on health and thereby to improve treatment of conditions with altered hormone levels.
As part of the research, EXCENTRICC will develop more accurate and patient-safe measurement methods of adrenocortical hormone. In addition, the center has an ambition to make it easier to find patients who are at risk of developing side-effects during treatment with adrenal cortex hormone as well as patients who suffer from high blood pressure due to overproduction of adrenal cortex hormone.
The Center for Clinical Excellence award honors research of high international quality, and during the selection process, it was emphasized that EXCENTRICC has scientific weight and first-class research that can be transformed quickly for use in the treatment of patients with adrenocortical hormone-related diseases.
The Center for Clinical Excellence is an award given by the Region of Southern Denmark to specially qualified research centers. The DKK 7.5 million that comes with the award will be awarded over a 5-year period.
